How $2 Makeup Fares for Sensitive Skin
NNURUL SHAKINAH BINTE JAMALUDDEEN purchased three makeup products from Daiso’s recently launched UR GLAM makeup line, and put it to test on her sensitive skin.

Daiso has a dedicated section for the UR GLAM makeup line in the Daiso outlet at Square 2 Mall (Novena).

Launched in April 2019, Daiso’s UR GLAM makeup line which costs $2 for each product may lead you to wonder if they work. With the motto, ‘sexy and healthy makeup’, UR GLAM seems to be Daiso’s way of promoting affordable, good quality makeup products.
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused many to be frugal with their spending, and buying affordable products may not be so bad during this time period, provided that they are safe.
This makeup line has 98 products which will be everything you need to create a complete makeup look.
Miss Stacy Lim, 25, an employee at Daiso, says that there has definitely been an “increase in sales in makeup” ever since UR GLAM launched in stores.
“The UR GLAM packaging looks fancier, and maybe because of that, people feel more confident to purchase them as they look like they are of good quality,” she says.
Miss Eileen Wong, 28, is a freelance makeup artist who has used UR GLAM products. She says that her personal favourite would be the cream blush.
“I have used a more expensive blush product and I have to say that this Daiso blush is comparable,” she says.
She also mentions being uncomfortable with using products like the concealer as she has acne-prone skin.
I got the cream blush that Miss Wong raved about and the concealer palette which she was sceptical to try.
With the help of Miss Naomi Chan Wei Ling, 22, a final-year student from Singapore Polytechnic’s Perfumery and Cosmetic Science course, I tried the products for a week and reviewed how it fared on my sensitive skin.
Since the Dior Lip Glow Oil is currently trending on TikTok, I decided to try out the UR GLAM Lip Oil to see if it could be a substitute.
The lip oil that I used had a nice shade of pink to it. It reminded me of a combination of lip balm and gloss, and it smoothened my lips. Thankfully, I did not get any adverse reactions from it.
Miss Chan says that many of the ingredients were similar to those found in Dior’s $52 lip oil.
“The mineral oil ingredient does not irritate [the] skin and therefore I would say that this is a good ingredient for use in lip gloss made for sensitive skin,” she says.
Miss Chan also says that the UR GLAM Lip Oil is “a good value for money” as it is affordable and compatible with sensitive skin.
Next, I tried the concealer palette.
This product disappointed me the most. Although I did not get any adverse reactions from it, the concealer did not blend well and it clung onto my dry patches.
However, if you would like to try this palette for yourself, Miss Chan gave the green light for you to do so.
“The ingredient, Caprylic or Capric Triglyceride, is tolerable for all skin types too. So I would say that this concealer palette is safe for use on sensitive skin,” she says.
The final product that I tried out was my personal favourite. The cream blush was very blendable and pigmented. Most importantly, it did not give me any adverse effects.
“I would say that this product is also safe to use on sensitive skin as none of the ingredients seem to be skin irritants,” Miss Chan says.

My favourite product out of the three products I tried: UR GLAM cream blush in the shade Cherry Red.

Although the Daiso UR GLAM makeup products did not give me any adverse reactions on my sensitive skin, do keep in mind that everyone’s skin is different.
“Try applying the product on your arm and wait 24 hours to see if you get a bad reaction. If not, I would say that the product is safe to be applied onto your face,” Miss Chan says.
